Paro Festival

The Paro Tshechu is one of Bhutan's most vibrant and spiritually significant religious festivals, held annually in the courtyard of the majestic Rinpung Dzong in Paro. This sacred celebration honors Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), the great Buddhist master who introduced Tantric Buddhism to Bhutan in the 8th century. For several days, monks and lay performers present sacred masked dances (Cham) wearing colorful costumes and elaborate masks. These dances are believed to invoke protective deities, purify negative karma, and bestow blessings upon all who witness them. The festival atmosphere is filled with devotion, music, and communal joy as Bhutanese families gather in their finest traditional attire. This 7-day journey combines the spiritual immersion of the Paro Tshechu with scenic Himalayan drives, cultural exploration in Thimphu and Punakha, and the iconic hike to Tiger's Nest Monastery, offering a well-balanced Bhutan experience.

Detailed Itinerary 

• Day 01 - Arrival in Paro & Transfer to Thimphu
  Arrive in Paro with breathtaking Himalayan views before driving to Thimphu, Bhutan's charming capital. Visit the towering Buddha Dordenma statue and enjoy a gentle forest walk overlooking the Thimphu Valley. In the evening, explore Tashichho Dzong, the seat of Bhutan's government and monastic body.
• Day 02 - Discovering Thimphu
  Explore Thimphu's cultural highlights including Memorial Chorten, Motithang Takin Preserve, Folk Heritage Museum, National Library, Traditional Paper Factory, and Weaving Center. Evening at leisure.
• Day 03 - Thimphu to Punakha
  Drive across Dochula Pass (3,150m), adorned with 108 chortens and offering panoramic Himalayan views. Visit Chhimi Lhakhang and the magnificent Punakha Dzong before returning to Thimphu.
• Day 04 - Thimphu to Paro & Paro Tshechu Festival
  Return to Paro to attend the Paro Tshechu at Rinpung Dzong. Witness sacred mask dances performed by monks and laymen in elaborate costumes. The vibrant celebration, accompanied by traditional music and prayer, offers profound insight into Bhutan's spiritual and cultural heritage.
• Day 05 - Paro Tshechu & Cultural Exploration
  Continue experiencing the festival celebrations and immerse yourself in the joyful community atmosphere. Later, explore Paro town and interact with locals dressed in their traditional finest attire.
• Day 06 - Hike to Tiger's Nest Monastery
  Embark on a memorable hike to Paro Taktshang (Tiger's Nest Monastery), perched dramatically on a cliff 900 meters above the valley. The trail winds through pine forests decorated with prayer flags. In the afternoon, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan's oldest and most sacred temples.
• Day 07 - Departure
  After breakfast, transfer to Paro International Airport for your onward journey. Your guide and driver bid you farewell with heartfelt wishes and the traditional blessing: Tashi Delek.
