Overview

This seven-day private journey connects Bhutan's western valleys through an immersive stay at three distinct lodges of Six Senses Bhutan. Each property is architecturally integrated into its landscape — forest ridgelines in Thimphu, rice terraces in Punakha, and pine-clad ruins in Paro. The experience balances cultural depth with wellness and comfort. Days unfold through guided monastery visits, scenic Himalayan drives, valley hikes, and meaningful encounters with Bhutanese spirituality. Evenings return you to refined lodge environments designed around Bhutanese materials, farm-to-table cuisine, and holistic spa rituals. The journey culminates with the pilgrimage hike to Paro Taktsang, Bhutan's most revered sacred site.

Detailed Itinerary

  • Day 1 — Arrival in Paro | Drive to Thimphu
Overnight: Six Senses Thimphu — "Palace in the Sky" Your arrival into Paro is one of aviation's most scenic descents, weaving between Himalayan peaks before touching down in the valley. After visa formalities, your private guide escorts you toward Thimphu through forested mountain roads. En route, pause at Tachog Lhakhang, crossing its traditional iron chain bridge suspended above the river. Ascend to Six Senses Thimphu, positioned high above the valley with views toward the monumental Buddha Dordenma. After settling in, begin gently with visits to the Folk Heritage Museum and the National Post Office for insight into Bhutanese daily life. Evening at leisure with lodge dining overlooking the valley lights.
  • Day 2 — Thimphu Valley Exploration
Overnight: Six Senses Thimphu The morning begins with a guided hike through pine forest to Talakha Monastery, where resident monks maintain centuries-old rituals. The walk offers both quiet reflection and valley panoramas. Later, visit Pangri Zampa Lhakhang, Bhutan's traditional astrology school, and return to the towering Buddha Dordenma for a closer perspective. In the afternoon, browse handicrafts at ABC Bazaar before returning to the lodge for a wellness session or guided meditation.
  • Day 3 — Thimphu to Punakha
Overnight: Six Senses Punakha — "Flying Farmhouse" Depart Thimphu and climb toward Dochula Pass. The 108 white chortens stand against distant Himalayan summits on clear days. Descending into subtropical Punakha Valley, walk through rice paddies to Chimi Lhakhang, associated with the "Divine Madman." Arrive at Six Senses Punakha, surrounded by terraced fields and river plains. Afternoon relaxation may include a signature Marma massage, followed by poolside dining beneath the Himalayan night sky.
  • Day 4 — Discover Punakha Valley
Overnight: Six Senses Punakha Begin with a countryside hike to Chorten Ningpo, a serene monastery nestled amid fields. After a traditional Bhutanese thali lunch, visit Punakha Dzong, dramatically positioned at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. Its courtyards and murals illustrate Bhutan's architectural mastery. Optional afternoon activities include river rafting, cycling through villages, or further spa indulgence.
  • Day 5 — Punakha to Paro
Overnight: Six Senses Paro — "Stone Ruins" Drive west across Dochula once more, then stop at Simtokha Dzong, Bhutan's oldest dzong. Pause at Chuzom Bridge, where two rivers meet beneath colorful prayer flags. Arrive at Six Senses Paro, built around restored stone ruins. Evening includes a tension-soother massage followed by organic farm-to-table dining.
  • Day 6 — Pilgrimage to Tiger's Nest
Overnight: Six Senses Paro An early start prepares you for the ascent to Paro Taktsang, perched 900 meters above the valley floor. According to legend, Guru Rinpoche meditated here in the 8th century after arriving on a flying tigress. The 6—8 hour roundtrip hike is moderate, with rest stops and panoramic viewpoints. In the afternoon, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan's oldest temples. Evening farewell dinner in traditional attire accompanied by Bhutanese music and folk dances.
